Since I have been getting some rest time from a very busy year I decided to do some ERR conversions since I had stuff laying around. It started with a Lionel Badlands train set purchase at the TTOS National convention that we new in the shrink wrap. No one wants them because these sets are DC but that was a great excuse for me to break out the ERR stuff  had bought. I thought that I originally could fit a Cruise Commander Lite in that little 8705 Neptune engine but with all the older tooling that was just adapted to the DC motor I ended up using a Mini Commander.

So that got me thinking what else I could use the Cruise Commander Lite kits in. I remember I had and found 2 K-line two motor switchers and installed them. I then installed a Mini Commander in a Lionel 8911 switcher and I added LED lights to that one.

I think getting these older locomotives and installing these ERR kits is a great low cost way to have fun and get into the hobby without a huge investment. Of course there will be things that I want to add so....

Here is my issue: Where to find what electro couplers have what pad or mounting and what have others done to fit these? What choices are there and what are the best practices? Any visual guides out there? I am attaching the 3 switchers that I would maybe like to add the electro couplers to since the hard work of the ERR control installs are completed.

All input is appreciated and thank you!IMG_0117IMG_0118IMG_0123

Jeff, this is usually done on a case by case basis. ERR sells 2" and 1 3/4" couplers that fit many engines and have the correct connector for their boards. Lionel sells many more types as short as 1 1/2" with different mounts and now different connectors.

It might help if you remove the couplers from the engines pictured so others can make suggestions.

Pete

Pictures of the coupler and the mounts as Pete suggests are a good start.  As I recall, that 8911 switcher has oddball mounts and may be problematic mounting standard electrocouplers.  The K-Line switchers also have non-standard coupler mounts, so some filing and filling may be required to equip them.  The screw holes for the top frame in the K-Line trucks kinda' interfere with the coupler, but it does set at the correct height.  Those may be possible with a little filing.
