This subject comes up every year or two and has been covered extensively in numerous threads.  Here is one:  https://ogrforum.com/topic/inq...7#168670231899004347  Beware of uninformed bluster.

Bottom line is to find out how your insurance treats trains - toys or collectibles - and get it in writing.  If what you have is replaceable with currently-produced items, you're probably covered under your homeowner policy.  If what you have is considered collectible / fine arts, you probably need a rider and/or a specialized policy.  YMMV

We use Collectible Insurance Service to insure certain jewelry at the recommendation of our Insurance Agent.  The process was easy and relatively inexpensive vs. value, and my research showed they were very well known and used to insure valuables especially the ones which would not be covered by a homeowners policy beyond a certain limited value.  We have had no claims experience with them.

Just looking to see if anyone has there collection Insured by them and if you do have you ever had to file a claim? How did that go?

I have looked through other topics on here to try to find more but Collectibles Insurance Services isn’t mentioned a whole lot.

I have had Collectible Insurance Service for several Years, maybe 10.  I have my entire Train Collection & Layout Insured thru them !   Have never had to Submit a Claim, so can’t answer to that!  Otherwise I don’t have any comments!  However they have been very obliging anytime I have contacted them on Changing Coverage !!

I'm not familiar with Collectible Insurance Service but if you are a TCA member, you are eligible to insure through them with JD Bash Insurance.  I can attest to the fact that collecting on a loss is very easy.  I had a theft and all I had to do was send a list of the stolen items (I keep an inventory) with my idea of the values to the insurance company.  They confirm the claimed values with TCA, and as long as you were reasonable in your values, a check shows up in a few weeks.

I keep blanket coverage as my collection is constantly changing.  It is a little more expensive that way vs. a static list of items but that works best for me.  You can also insure your layout.  Coverage is also provided up to $15000 for items in transit, such as taking to a train show.
