D&RGW and S.P. for me!
Tough topic - I have tried, but...............
Then there was the guy who modeled the Yosemite Valley RR, was it? Timeframe was limited to a Saturday afternoon in August 1939 or sump'n. (MR article from the 80s sometime I think)
Southern Pacific and Western Pacific!!!

I do not call it "limiting" but my collection is 90% PRR, 9% NS Heritage, and 1% Lackawanna.

Motive power is all New York Central, although I have two SW9 Raritan River locomotives and a SW1500 Conrail loco relegated to a work train with a gondola, CC crane and tender. Rolling stock is whatever I deem to be appropriate.
Reading, JC, Lehigh Valley, for the most part, but will buy another road name if it catches my eye.
Yes. I collect only Amtrak for passenger and Norfolk Southern for freight.
To bring my wife into my world we combined hobbies...she loves to take pictures...so my rule is...for me to buy a road name...I have to have a picture of a piece in that road name. It's been pretty fun chasing trains around together...and she loves it! Her work is all over the basement...and so is mine So far I have or can buy...CSX, Nickel Plate (we have a NP for our Fair Train) BNSF, Amtrak, UP, KCF, MKT, Norfolk Southern & Western (caught a special paint engine on vacation this year), Indiana Railroad, Indiana Harbor, Soo and L&N. It's been a cool part of our lives since the kids have moved on! The only ones I don't have on my layout yet in any form is L&N, BNSF and KCF...I have a rolling stock piece or engine of all the rest.
We caught an old FP40 Amtrak engine rolling out of Chicago...I was able to get that exact train in o scale and for purposes of a mutual interest...I run this train always on my passenger line. Got her picture in poster size...it's pretty cool! We actually plan stuff around this now when we travel.
My will power is weak and this forum has more than once lead to astray -- to something I didn't know I had to have until I saw it here.
Congratulations to those of you who set and follow your own rules around limited rail lines and time frames. Off to be sure the TurboTrain gets off on time and it not held up by the woodside reefers departing on track two again.
Currently my four favorites are:
Santa Fe Freight
Santa Fe Passenger
Santa Fe Diesel
Santa Fe Steam
I limit myself to PRR,Penn Central,Amtrak and Conrail with an occassional B&O and Chessie locomotive.
I wish I could limit myself, I have railroads from the east coast to the west. I also have many different steam and diesel locomotives. I have a wide assortment of freight and passenger cars. My problem is that I like too many railroads out there.
That was the original plan, but the heart wants what the heart wants. The current operating rule is something has to leave to make room for something arriving.
Yes, primarily SP, UP, and AT&SF railroads and all are 2-rail brass models from various importers. My 2 exceptions are a Custom Brass PRR T-1 and an Overland Models NYC J3a Hudson with centipede tender.
Previously sold off all 3-rail and Standard Gauge stuff to OGR forum members.
That's a dream I have but so far it's a negative
It was always my desire to limit my model RR hobby to PRR steam era that would operate without too much overhang on O72 curves. I wanted an operating set up and did not want to become a collector. I have more than enough for me to run and maintain (6 steamers, 12 passenger/mail cars, and about 50 freight/cabin cars with only a couple of more modern pieces of rolling stock). To satisfy the rare itch to acquire anything more I just scratch on the forum for photos. Here is a photo of my inventory except for my PRR Atlantic that was on the bench for 4 chuff work.
