You might be shocked at how much it would cost to have a rail cast, if you can even find anybody to do it.

I used to buy sections of various weight rail from a steel supply warehouse. They are probably still available today.

Also, Metal Crane Rails are now available ( used ) on the bay for $ 15 per foot plus freight. Minimum 20 feet

With all the old track around, I can't imagine you can't find rail sections for less than it would cost to create new rail!

I think he was talking about model rail, and rolled or extruded, not cast.

But don't we already have 100 and 148 code?  Maybe S Scale has something in between?

I am pretty sure code 125 rail is available somewhere and code 138 also.

I use code 148 in steel.  This is the Lou Cross product from many years ago.  It has rusted only where it has been sprayed with wet water.  Otherwise, it has not rusted and it has been in use for 15+ years.

Hmmm, the rail must be almost free; most of that price has to be the shipping.

code 126, but the hi rail guys use 148

S gauge high rail is mostly .138 rail. Lionel S gauge FasTrack, SHS/MTH and Fox Valley Models all use it. S scale rail is code 100 or smaller Only American Model s made track with .148 rail. Gilbert and Gargraves rail is much taller.

I suggest you buy .138.  Bet you cannot tell the difference.

However - .148 would look more realistic, since we are wide gauge.  It would probably proportion out to .141.

x=.139. Almost dead on.

looks like a classic case of wheel reinvention.

Bob2 is correct, 138 steel is available, along with nickel silver.

Here is the nickel silver  .138 rail used to build my layout. MTH is no longer making it but it should still be available from Fox Valley.

Thanks for the information on code 138 rail, but this is a thread on O scale 122 lb. rail, (which I called Code 141 for reference.)

We were just trying to talk you out of it.  If it is what you want, go for it!  It is indeed a hobby, and we get to enjoy it however we want.  There are folks who will roll or extrude it for you.

The 138 Rail I'm talking about is meant to model 112 to 130 pound rail.  I know of no steel or NS rail that's extruded.  All is rolled and some is drawn following the rolling.  As far as I know all of it is now made in Sheffield, England.
