Did Anyone receive their Lionel Legacy GP9?
If so how is it? Similar to the Lionel GP7 vintage of several years ago?

PRRHOURSESHOECURVE,
I have a PRR GP9 on pre order, heard it is due 6/12. Never ordered the GP7 as it did not have train phone antennas. it is a prerequisite with PRR diesels (at least with me).

I know the BN's have shipped from dealers to customers.
I got an email from FedEx Monday with delivery info. from Charles Ro. I think it's for the Chessie GP9 that I ordered last Fall. It's supposed to arrive Wednesday.
That BN unit looks really nice. I didn't see any MU receptacles on either end, however.
Is the small stand pipe on top of the roof plastic or brass? Also are the sounds generic or GP9 specific sounds? I have one coming and would like to know if I should cancel it or keep it. As it stands right now my SD40's sound just like my F3's and I don't want to have all my new engines sound the same.
I just got this engine today. Aside from the rear MU platform breaking off I'm really impressed with this engine. I've already contacted Lionel customer service and they will send me another one when they have them in stock. I might be able to insert pins into it to reattach it.

That "stand pipe" is a VHF radio "firecracker" antenna. It appears that Lionel made the antenna road-specific - some roads had them, and some didn't. Nice attention to detail.
Hey catnap, that bell on the short nose is a really nice touch! Good luck with that loco
The colors are sharp

Now that I know what it is really called, my question still remains. Is it plastic or brass? I do agree it is a nice added detail, but it will break off to easy and chances are Lionel will never have the part, only replacement shells. One unlucky bump will be all it takes for it to break off if it is plastic. My preorder will have to wait a few days until I find the answers.
Thanks! The colors are bright and the detail is exceptional. These are probably the nicest GP9's made by anybody.
The bell does look cool. I'm not sure if it's brass but I like it.
I think this engine also has a ratcheting rear brake (3rd picture)...
I've run it a little and it sounds and smokes awesome. Can't beat LEGACY Railsounds.
With this locomotive I now have every type of model that I want for the Chessie System. In addition to this LEGACY GP9 I also have a LEGACY GP30, GP35 and 2 SD40's. From Atlas I have 3 SD40's (ERR-TMCC) and from MTH I have an SD35 (ProtoSound 3), 3 GP40's (ProtoSound 2) and an SD50 (ProtoSound 3). I'm still looking for one more ProtoSound 2 GP40, either Baltimore & Ohio or Chessie System.
Here are pics of my PRR unit:
I thought this Trainphone antenna was broken... turns out to be the hatch for the battery.CAREFUL! the Trainphone conduit is made up of delicate Brass wire.
Why isn't the Trainphone conduit going down on this side of the hood?
Incorrect Placement of Trainphone conduit into Body [Should be on the LONG Hood End]
Also, Why is the PRR Fuel tank Filler on the Wrong side!
The battery hatch [Don't Store Batteries when not in use!]
And what's with the "universal" use of the CB&Q GP9 Name plate on all of these GP9s pictured here and above?
Pics of the Real PRR #7048 - Thanks to PRR Diesel Loco Pictorial Vol VIII pg #609 by Withers Publishing.
I am sorry but where did these dangling Air tanks come from?
And why did Lionel Place the "As Built" paint scheme yet left off the Full Fuel tank Side skirting?
Below is the Legacy GP7 Fuel and Air tanks. This unit was released a few years ago. Lionel got it right on this model!
What the hell happened here?
If I am "gambleing" my hard earned Dollars on these "BTO units" now reaching the $500.00- $600.00 range, I couldn't care less what electronic gadgetry it is equipped with if the Mfg's CAN'T GET THE DETAILS CORRECT!
If someone has the Rio Grande version(s), some pictures would be appreciated. I want to see if Lionel got the orange paint color correct on the livery. Their GP35s were a fiasco - although the catalog artwork showed the correct Rio Grande orange color, they used some kind of goofy red orange paint in the actual production. Really disappointing! I'm not about to consider the Rio Grande GP-9 without seeing it first.
Maybe I should retract my statement about...These are probably the nicest GP9's made by anybody.
I didn't bother to check all of the little details with my GP9. I was just happy to see that Lionel got the correct "0" font in the cab #. They whiffed on the SD40, cab #7500. I'm not sure how they can get it right on one model but not all.
Still, really nice locomotives that I wouldn't hesitate to buy again if given a 2nd chance...
Speaking of number fonts, the cab # in the photo is different than your model (GP9). Maybe it was changed, I don't know...
I hope you'll warm up to it.
Here are a couple of pics of the Rio Grande version. I have not recieved the second one yet should be here by Monday.
I got the Union Pacific ones a few years ago then I got the CNW ones a year or so after those. I love em, they look and sound great. Smoke is a little anemic but other than that I couldnt be happier.
Again, I do not see any MU receptacles on either ends of the models. Those should be VERY obvious.
Again, that CB&Q gp9 nameplate also seen on the DRG&W unit as well!
Hotwater, I can "fix" the train phone and the missing mu receptacles but the fuel fill position would require a lot of butchering of the model!

Good luck finding those high mounted MU receptacles.

Thanks very much for the photos, Al. The middle engine in the second picture is the color they used for their GP-35s. Ugh. How in the world did they end up with that red-orange paint? These new GP-9s are much better; somewhat too yellow, but far better than the GP-35s. I like the prototypical "smoke stacks" on these units.
Here are some shots of the real ones, for color comparison.
You only use those in a MU consist, Lionels run in lash-ups so you dont need em
Wow!... I did not order any of these but the PRR looks sharp as does the BN in green.
I missed the C&NW version the Matt spoke about.
I suspect operation is superb, but it will be nice to see some video down the road.
Enjoy.

After much confusion and incorrect information from several sources, the NYC will be the grey lightning stripe as originally shown in the catalog. Lionel had commented the black cigar band was to be done instead.
Glad to see they fooled themselves.
Ordered one today.
I received my Southern #6256 yesterday and I think the model looks pretty good. There are a few inaccuracies but nothing that I can't live with. It does have the correct subsidiary initials under the cab number (G.S.&F) but instead of an S it has a 5! (G.5.&F) Thankfully it's only obvious under close inspection! And the floating air tanks do look kind of odd. I'm trying to be a little more mellow in my rapidly advancing older years and accept certain prototype infidelities as part of the game. However, for the price, Lionel could have done a better job with quality control. I can't comment on how it runs because I am still in layout construction phase and haven't laid track yet.

Got my NYC version. Didn't realize it was going to be the grey 'passenger' version - hence the torpedo tubes on top. It's going back though, not because i don't like it - test run and there's a staccato noise coming from the rear truck, like a gear is not meshing with another gear.
I have several and they are super in my opinion.
Just wish Lionel would recess the couplers some. The way they are now just looks really bad.
As already mentioned, the GP9 nomenclature plate was not a CB&Q exclusive, there were applied by EMD on engines of that period. The Q even mimicked the plates on GE engines as well.
PRRHorseShoeCurve,
I own the Scale Legacy GP9 Northern Pacific and it is way cool runs perfect, sounds well and smokes like a chimney on fire! I also own the original Lionel Conventional GP7 work train and Passenger Train, the Scale Legacy GP9 is a great addition to the originals! Run an OGR search, there is a tread that the members were nice enough to provide when I was looking to purchase. Very informative thread on the Legacy GP9.
Pulls the 30 or 40 Christmas Box Cars with no trouble at all! Pulls the full US Military consist the same way.

Well guess what HOTWATER, I got three pairs s of those high mounted m.u. receptacles... Thanks to Bill Davis! No worries now!
Here's a short vid of my GP9's with freight sound boxcars.
