Special MTHRRC Offer: Exclusive Lionel Corporation Tinplate Standard Gauge 400E Steam Locomotive Announced

November 5, 2014 - M.T.H. Electric Trains will be producing an exclusive uncataloged Lionel Corporation Tinplate Standard Gauge 400E steam locomotive for delivery next January to MTHRRC members.

The limited production run 400E in matching Lionel Lines livery complements all the standard gauge Lionel Corporation Tinplate MTHRRC cars we've released since 2009 and features synchronized puffing smoke, LED lighting and the incredible sounds and performance of Proto-Sound 3.0. This will be a very limited production - just 60 engines will be produced - and is being exclusively offered to M.T.H. Railroader Club Members on a first-come, first-served basis.

With a suggested retail price of $999.95, each engine will be sold to interested MTHRRC members for $899.95 each plus freight. At a price like this and with a limited production run of just 60 units, these magnificent 400E locomotives won't last long.

Item No. 11-1036-1 Lionel Lines 400E Std. Gauge Steam Engine w/Proto-Sound 3.0

This locomotive will be exclusively offered to MTHRRC Members for a limited time or until supplies are exhausted. Don't miss this opportunity to obtain one of the most exciting diesel locomotives we've ever produced. To order your copy today, call the M.T.H. MTHRRC Department at 410-381-2580 (option 4) and reserve yours today. MTHRRC Memberships start at just $25.00.

That being said, I just ordered one anyway!   No accounting for taste indeed!  I already have the girls set.
Wonder if they would come out with matching Stephen Girard cars.

I think I'm tapped out until WAY into next year, and my wife has a solid hard wood rolling pin and a large cast iron skillet. The really bad part is, MTH has managed to include a few pieces in the new 2015 v1 catalog that I really want. I wish they would stop that for at least a catalog or two.

May be more no accounting for taste here, but not only do I like this one, the recent boys and girls sets are my all time favorites. Maybe someday I will catch up enough to at least get those two sets.

I think if money was no object I would probably add it to the roster. I would like to the Christmas one with the matching passenger cars. That set would look beautiful together, and if not my other choices would be the two tone blue, or the dark green.

The other one I would really like to have was the SP version MTH made years ago in the daylight colors. I wish they would bring that one back!!

Yes... a Standard Gauge Christmas offering/re-issue is LONG overdue.  An even more remote possibility -- but sure to be popular -- would be an offering done up with the Polar Express color-scheme!!!  Sign me up for that one in a heartbeat.

Scott, its not the whole guacamole, its the whole purple. *thud* (me hitting the floor). ScottS, you are such a train-tease

I ordered the Purple 400E when it was first offered. They re-released a few years later. I don't have the purple 392 but it would be a nice addition. If you keep checking EBay you should find one or two a year for auction. The most difficult thing to find are the purple passenger cars that MTH only offered once. I didn't have the cash when they came out and I have only seen a set for sale once in the past 8 years.

The purple MTH cars bring up thoughts of the rare, unusual and possibly mythical Purple Blue Comet from the Lionel Golden Age.

BTW my 392E is for sale.

or of the LP record we had in my house growing up about the "Purple People Eater"- with the mythical Purple PE in glorious technicolor, shown in staged pics having run over vintage Barclay folks, et al. Limbs strewn over the tracks, with one squished under the wheels...

Just a side not for us tinplate folk.  Side track is the best place to find tinplate at the right price and they have great customer service! I just bought a 385-E from them last week and always make a stop by at York.

what color scheme IS the 10-1341-1? You  have no picture on the website.

Man, that's not cool.  Ever since I read this post this morning I've had that song in my head.  It was a one eyed, one toed, flying purple people eater... Over and over.

Then I started thinking about a girl who wore an eensy, weensy, yellow polka dot bikini, ran over a dead skunk in the middle of the road, which was stinking to high heaven, and ended up doing the monster mash to tubular bells.  It's been a rough day...  Cheers!

I like the colors In the op, but will stick to original prewar.  Don't know if I'll ever get an original 400e, but I've got one of the rest, so I'm good.
