I have one of this with the infamous broken plastic gear that is no longer available. Does anyone know of a DIY fix for this? I thought I saw something here a couple years ago but cannot locate it.
Thanks,
Ed

Sorry about that. It is definitely Lionel, and as soon as I can get someone to pull the box out (I cannot walk) I will publish it. It is a Mustang on one arm and a Zero on the other.
if unavailable, this might be a good use for 3D printing
Catalog number is 6-24108. But I see no additional info on the Lionel webpage.

From what I am told Lionel abandoned it and is no longer supplying any parts. I thought I read that some were putting new motor/gear assemblies in that differ from the original but cannot find that thread.
Plastic gears are available on the Big A in kits of various sizes, types and dimensions. If all else fails, you might want to try there and see if there is something that will work.
Also, check the trainz.com website for pylon gears.

Yes, this is an EXTREMELY well known problem with the pylons and MANY of Lionel's accessories. Example the forklift used the same gear and it cracks in it too.

Many Pylons fail new in the box from a cracked gear, and are discovered the first time they are powered. Kind of the 101 thing to know about them.

Go on amazon, buy a gear assortment and just match up the correct replacement small gear.

$8 and you could have it fixed.
Thanks to everyone and I ordered a gear assortment from Amazon.
