"Is it here yet?"

"Not yet."

The northbound excursion couldn't leave until the southbound Fort Smith Turn went by, so we waited.

While waiting for the Fort Smith Turn, I took detail shots of the crossing signals for the benefit of anyone who digs crossing signals.

Almost gi-raffe like!

If I'd known the Fort Smith Turn was going to include most of the A&M's car fleet, I woulda brought a tripod...

I've been to Monett, and had other things to do, so we'll just leave it here.

Did the excursion have to block the grade crossing to clear a switch?

No, they didn't want the gates pogoing up and down as both trains were going to pass.  As you can see, the excursion was moving as the last of the turn came through.

Man, that must have been a great trip!

Yep!  I've taken it in the past, and it's something of a rare treat!

I celebrated my 78th birthday with a ride aboard the A&M RR with family - in the vista dome car. At my request, the RR office pre-arranged for delivery of a birthday cake through a local bakery, and the crew served it along the way in the dome!  A memorable birthday for this railfan.

The A&M RR operates freight and passenger mixed service along its route from Springdale to Van Buren, Arkansas; so railfans see an actual railroad at work.  The touristy scenic route is momentarily interrupted when the train stops at a siding to deliver or pick up freight cars; then it continues along the rails.
