Asfalta[Blacktop] paint from Ace Hardware over skimcoat of drywall compound over mesh fiberglas tape.
I think he means a very thin coat.
Rick...got your e-mail. Another option, which is what I have used in the past, is tar paper....OR.....the back of shingles. Just cut and lay the shingle upside down...looks really good!

The hardboard foam/Tiger Foam is great for roads.
You can cut it to shape, paint it and it does not warp.

I use 4 inch wide stair tread safety tape. It is black and has texture like blacktop. It, of course, looks like new blacktop so some weathering would probably improve the look. Curves take a bit of cutting and the addition of some extra tape to get enough width for a smooth curve.
