Atlas 2R and 3R Preorder Discount

I received an email from Toy Train Heaven (TTH) in Pennsylvania today announcing preorder prices on tank cars and coil cars with a discount of 30 percent off MSRP.

 

This is the highest discount I have ever seen on Atlas O products. One must preorder at www.toytrainheaven.com (1-800-326-9332) by the Atlas deadline which I think is the beginning of March.

 

TTH is a full-range hobby store operated in conjunction with Bowser Mfg (who've been around in HO for years). I have dealt with them for years in HO and picked up some odds and ends in 2R from them on occasion.

 

Prices are below but I was wondering if this sizable increase over the usual Atlas discount is Atlas's doing to regain customers or merely the price this vendor is offering.

Jeff,

 

I got it in an email with HO, N, and O stuff announcing preorders. It's not on their web site.

 

I was surprised at the O stuff. They sometimes have had a few things (mostly Atlas) on their web site but this was a surprise since I never recall them listing O stuff for preorder before.

 

Anyone interested should probably sign up for their email newsletter.

 Do they have any pricing on Atlas 25,500 gallon tankers due in march 2015?

I guess it might be advertising if I had any connection with this vendor, outside of being a customer, but I don't.

 

Al, I've never noticed any pre-order info on from them on the 25,500 tank cars. I think this discount applies strictly to pre-orders.

 

Usually, they send out a very long list. This one was fairly short and began with Atlas HO and N and that was the only reason I came upon the O stuff.

Wow. If he buys in case lots, his gross margin is about $5 a car. Assuming he has credit card fees, that eats half of it, and inbound shipping eats the rest, so he's selling them at break even to get some new customers? I wonder what he charges the customer for shipping? Honestly, there's a lot of time involved in processing these orders if he gets any volume. 

 

I am a business professor in my retirement and tell my MBA students never to go into an industry where the competition is crazy or desperate. I should follow my own advice.

I've watched this site for O scale also, as well as bought HO scale & a few O scale items from them.

They're GREAT people to do business with & I had 1 return that was handled VERY WEll,no arguments.

Thanks again for the info.

For anyone interested,they have bathtub coal gons on advance order I believe. I don't remember the price as modern tankers & covered grain hoppers are what I'm looking for at the moment.
