Atlas 33K Tank Cars cancelled

There is too many of these on the market now. I can pick up any of them for $25-$30. It is no wonder these did not sell. The faux paint scheme had nothing to do with them being cancelled. If you don't like it don't buy it. The others were nice but again too many on the market.

Quite possible.  The point about the choice of schemes to try and drum up some interest in these cars shows that Atlas was trying to do something out of the box... Didn't seem to work.

Did you get any of the Trinity hoppers? Now those are incredible. The coil cars also very nice.

Lots of Trinities and Coil cars.  :-) Definitely nice cars.

Back about 20 years ago Grand Trunk Western had a very similar 33K tank Car refurbished and specially painted for their VAF Training sessions. It was numbered GTW 911. Then CN decided to repaint it for the entire CN system and it is now CN 911. Those are two real graphic schemes right there that I would get.

Bummer! I was hoping to purchase the PRR car and add 6 wheel trucks on it! IT would have been the closest thing to the 1:1 PRr Prototypes!

When Atlas announces new or rerun/repaint models the decision to build is based on reservations as the days of building models for inventory are gone, if you or your dealer don't reserve your chances of picking up the model after it is out are not that good today as the build quantities are closely tied to reservations.

I am not surprized that this car has been cancelled as it was one of the original years in Atlas production and rerun a few times. There are other cars in this position like the arti- auto carriers and ex vision caboose a few.

I have over 150 cars, buying many repaints when nothing new to buy and now I am a real picky buyer as I can't position that many cars on the layout and hate the in and out of the box to play. Does one just become a collector?

I may buy ONE coil car just to have it in a train and I would possibly buy 10 or more of the front range cars as see many empty ones moved on the rails. I would also like 45' trailers of J B Hunt and such as I don't see many of the trailers Atlas produces for these cars in real life.

BUt again at the number of cars I do own now I can't see buying many more.

In the early production years Atlas ran much larger quantities of there models than they do today as a result there is a glut in some cases of Atlas product still for sale. Today runs are limited to reservations and dealers carry limited inventory.
