I may be out of line here but please can someone please tell me what the figures 5 and 7.5 mean to identifiy these two pairs of O Gauge 3 rail high speed switches (6021-2 and 6024-5)?
They are a measure of the angle of the frog based on the ratio of how far apart the rails are as you get away from the point. So a #5 means that the rails are 1 unit apart 5 units away from the frog point. A #7.5 means that they are 1 unit apart 7.5 units away. How long a unit is is in-material so long as you use something constant. In real life you can just use your shoe (but we shouldn't be walking on live railroad tracks). For O-scale, figure a 1/4-inch is practical, but use what you want.
If your tracks are spaced the Atlas recommended 4.5" center rail to center rail, two 7.5 turnouts connected turnout to turnout, will keep your 4.5" spacing, if needed.
