ATSF railsounds 17202 car

I've seen other postings on this. I have the old railway express rail sounds car from the 80s which has a volume control and is plenty loud. Not enthusiastic about having to buy another amp for this. It has a tiny speaker hole. Would enlarging that to an inch or so help?

If you carefully glue a toilet paper role core to the speaker, you'll get quite a boost in acoustic volume.
