Due to its slight alkalinity, Ballistol neutralizes and dissolves black powder and corrosive ammo residue.
I never shoot black powder or corrosively primed smokeless ammo with my 3 rail track so I never use Ballistol, Hoppe's, Rem Oil, Break Free or any other gun solvent or lubricant on track. Alcohol is an effective solvent for dirty track and it dries without leaving a residue.
Anything more than Rubbing Alcohol is overkill, I use it to clean Firearms but it's also a light Lubricant and I don't think you want to lubricate your track.
It will dissolve copper, and will lift Chrome and Nickel if the surface is scratched supposedly.
It also smells like Dirty Socks and the smell will linger in the room for awhile.
99% Isopropyl Alcohol. I couldn't find it locally, but I found it on Amazon and had a few quarts shipped to me.
