I'l looking at a New In the Box Bascule Bridge 6-22972.
Were there any issues regarding this issue of the Bascule Bridge that I should be aware of before I purchase it?
Is it a reliable Lionel accessory?
Thanks

NO-YES
Mine is currently sitting in the box, since I have no room for it on my layout, but I took it to shows back when I got it; mine was trouble-free.
I have had it on my layout since when first offered for sale (fifteen years). It has never been a problem. Works beautifully.
I have on on my layout and have been involved with installing three others, all have functioned as advertised without any problems.
What experience do you have with the bridge Eddie so we could learn from it?

I have one and it generally works well. I did have a few times wherein a train with a lighted car in the insulated approach track caused an electrical transient which commanded the bridge to open while the train was still crossing! It was an intermittent problem. More diligent (and short) wire routing and perhaps a transient suppression capacitor should solve the problem. My immediate solution was to simply de-power the bridge unless I wanted to open it.
Eddie,
Thanks for your reply and your input.
In fairness to Eddie, you asked two conflicting questions in your OP, so it is unclear as to which he is responding. I can say that mine has been on the layout for almost that entire time, and had just one very early board failure, that Lionel took care of immediately.
I use it every time I fire up the layout, so that the boats can get in and out of the harbor when I'm not running trains...

Good reliable bridge; just be aware these bascule bridges (and the Postwar version as well..) do not accept the newer scale cars that are taller. Just going on memory, but i remember clearance from the top of the rails to the bottom of the counter-weight was like 4 & 3/4 inches. Taller maxi-stack type cars will not fit.
I believe the 213 lift bridge pictured above has the same issue on clearances.
Thanks Eddie for the report.
Nice to see pictures of the different bridges on your layout. Thanks for posting.
Happy railroading,

Hi eddie g, Just like the JFK press conferences, No to the first question and Yes to the second. I like that, it's history.
I replaced my postwar original with the repro. It has operated perfectly for several years, but as noted above, it would not pass the full scale double stacks when they came out. Fortunately, courtesy of an article posted on this forum, I modified it to increase the clearance and it now passes all my equipment.
