Hi all,

I had a question for the fine folks here at OGR and more of a technical question when it comes to the BASE3. I understand this is so new questions like this might not be the right place to ask here but guess I would try. In the features section on the main page it says;

  • Memory module support - Included writable module to easily transfer your engine roster from your Base2 to your new Base3. Reads older Legacy engine orange modules.

If I have a 993 kit but no 990 and planning to get the BASE3. Will I be able to update the Cab2 remotes with the "writeable module support" in the BASE3? Like stick a black or modded-blue module in and write the 1.70 Cab2 update and then update the remote without having a Base2 from the 990 kit? It leads me to think I can but wondering about needing the serial port? Just looking for opinions.

Thanks,

Joe

It is new but considering they have given the writable module port and they are now using a micro USB I would think you can still use a computer to write a module to update the cab2 remote. If not maybe the cab 3 app will allow you to write a module for the cab2 and I am sure there will need to be some update for cab2 with the Base 3. Maybe @Dave Olson will shed some light on this soon.

I went ahead and called Lionel and spoke with a lovely rep named Heather.

She confirmed the module support will work exactly how I thought and laid out above. She believes it will be able to write and update as needed. I will most likely have my 993s arrive and then be patient and wait for a BASE3 to ship. I can run trains for a little longer without the full legacy experience and refuse to overpay.

Anyone else see the 990 set sell on the bay for $2600? Good day for that seller lol. I found someone on the zuck marketplace that has a 990 set with a ruined controller (leaked batteries that were forgotten about) but the seller is unable to understand how it affects the value so I am hard passing on that. If anyone is using a (working) 990 base as a paperweight, you know where to find me.

That leads me to the next answer I got which was in regards to timeframe for actual shipping. As of now it was advised sometime in June is anticipated date.

I understand the only real tech talk will come in the future from Dave and Ryan and look forward to it.

Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday and stays safe!
