I own a MTH PS2 Allegheny that has a battery of which I would like to replace with a BCR capacitor.

The tender contains 2 NiCD AA batteries (please see photo).  I'm pretty sure this is the 3V board.  Do I need to order a BCR2 to take the place of the AA's?

I installed the BCR2 in the tender.  I had to cut off the molex plug and spliced the BCR2 leads together with the red and black wire that connects to the battery holder.

When I add the locomotive into the remote, the engine starts up in DCS mode with no problems.  If I power down the track and power back up, the engine will not start up in DCS mode.  Any idea what may be going on here?

Are you saying that you have to keep adding the loco to get the remote to talk to it?

After a power cycle the remote will or won't address it?

Then you have to delete and re-add?

The address is probably being changed and the address is not "sticking" in the board. Try clearing out address #1 and adding the engine. Are you waiting for the remote to finish assigning a new address before power down?

Does the engine play sounds for 5 seconds (full shutdown) if you kill the power?

Yes, i have to keep adding the locomotive to the remote to get the engine to talk to the TIU.

Yes, after a power cycle, the remote will not address the locomotive.

To get the engine to talk to the remote again, I do have to re-add it into the remote.

I did try running the locomotive in conventional mode.  I noticed the sound will not stay on for 5 seconds.  It stays on for 1-2 seconds at best.  Im wondering if it is a bad BCR2.  If its a bad charging circuit, does the whole PS2 board need replaced?

I determined the charging circuit is bad as I measured the DC voltage from the battery charging port with power applied.  I measured only around 2.6 volts.

According to the gentleman I spoke with at J&W, I should be getting around 5 volts on that circuit.

I guessing the top psb that the charging circuit plugs into needs to be replaced.  What would be the MTH part number for this board?  I guess I'll call MTH to see about getting a new board.
