IF you are "local" to the Lionel store- try taking it back. It might be, that because it was bought so recently, that they might exchange it. (The warranty is NOT for an "exchange", though and they likely will not take it back.). If not, then just leave it there with the service department.
My guess though (based on the time of year, and the fact that taking it back seems not an option for you) that you were passing through when you bought it and are "back North" after a winter in FL. So- call Lionel service, get a return authorization (they pick up the freight both ways) and send it back. They likely will take 10 days or so, and send it back all fixed. They might even discover something you have not yet noticed, and fix that also. Don't try and puzzle it out for yourself!
Mike its just a two hour drive think ill check the draw bar and if that not take it back today dont want to mail it after ra number because is was just in the box with no shipping carton thank for the reply

FWIW - Your Berkshire is the postwar style LC+ engine done several years ago. It's a completely different engine from the one the OP has.
Doug - great layout! I love your "clean" approach to scenery and the way you have laid out the Flyer above the Lionel.
Here's some more LC+ 2.0 (with a postwar F3 in the background).
