I need to clean the grease out of the motors of a #60 trolley and #50 gang car. Does anyone have a favorite?

This what I use. All around pretty safe solvent. Made to remove wax and grease from paint before repainting so safe on most all painted surfaces. Found at many home and hardware stores. Won’t attack the enamel wire coating.

What Pete said and uses,….if using specifically as a degreaser, it can be recycled over and over again,….one gallon will last a long long time, and not break the bank,….a small Tupperware tub, some small brushes, and you’re in business…..put it right back in the gallon can when you’re done ….wipe out your bowl, and you’re ready for the next time….repeat…

Someone here suggested CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner to me a long time ago. I too was cleaning a 60 trolley. I love this stuff. The spray is strong, and gets out all the caked on grease. It's good for electronic connections as well. I bought 6 cans from the big online retailer so I don't run out.

In my opinion the tool is equally as important as the solvent - I use a thick piece of piano wire about 4 inches long with the end bent like an Allan wrench shape- it’s is stiff but thin enough to scrape out all the old garbage in the teeth but also between the sides of the fixed drive gear and chassis.
I can get 95% of the old stuff out with tooling/paper towel and then it’s just burnishing the worm gear with paper towel and mineral spirits.
