It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Bill Parisi, a long-time valued member of our OGR family.

Bill passed away early this morning (6/17) from heart failure that resulted from complications following a surgery performed earlier this past weekend.

Members of this forum are well aware of Bill's many contributions here. He was member of OGR magazine's Section Gang, and has contributed numerous articles and photos to the publication. Bill also regularly assisted with our booth at the York Meet and other shows and meets.

Ed Boyle, one of Bill's long-time and closest friends, will add his thoughts to this thread at a later point. In the meantime, I just wanted our extended family and Bill's many friends in the hobby to receive early notification of this very sad event.

This is very, very sad, indeed.

At York this past April Bill assisted my wife and me at the OGR booth as we contemplated the use of the new Ameritowne building, the 6-story hotel, on our layout.  The building would not quite fit over the 7" square post beam enclosure in the midst of our 'town' layout peninsula.  But with Bill's enthusiastic help, we came up with a way to expand all of the walls purchasing one additional kit,....Bill's Place.  (Is that a coincidence?!  I wonder.)

The building is nearly complete.  We've been working to incorporate EL lighting into some of the building's 80+ windows.  I wanted to have it completed before summer's end so I could share pics with Bill, and, perhaps, bring it to the October York meet to show him.

It's the only time we met Bill, although his name has been a part of the hobby and OGR for many years.  I feel somewhat 'cheated' (poor word...forgive me, please) by his passing, not able to complete the project 'circle'.  But, on the other hand, we feel blessed to have had his personal involvement, smiling, enthusiastic help in what will be the centerpiece structure of our city.

We'll miss you, Bill.

I am absolutely floored.........

Bill was a great fellow and one of the bright spots on my trips to York. I have known him personally ever since this Forum got started. I always enjoyed spending time with him. I will miss him, his smile, his stories, his knowledge.....very much.

My prayers are with his family. I share their loss. He was one of the "good guys".

It is a sad fact that We've lost quite a few member over the years, the really sad part is that eventually all of their contributions will fade away over time into oblivion, not giving new members insight to who these past members were and their contributions. How about a "locked forum" Archive of all the past members contributions with just their names, year of passing,  and then,  all of their posts through the years. This would be sort of a memorial forum I guess you could call it. It would give new members the benefits of their wisdom, and us older member fond remembrances of our fallen comrades....Just a thought

Another very sad piece of news... my condolences to Bill's family and close friends.  Saw him many times holding down the fort at the OGR booth in Allentown.  And his many photos throughout his travels were a great contribution to this forum too.  I've said it before and I'll say it again... we're losing WAY too many folks in our small corner of the world.

It is very sad to hear this news.  Only two weeks ago I was in Florida the same time as Bill and we had a few good conversations.  Bill was a top notch person.  We talked about spending time at the Lionel open house again.  Bill was one of the nicest persons I have known.  Bill served his Country with honor.  I first met Bill a few years ago when he paid Dotty and I a visit.  From day one, he stood very tall in my book.  I, like a great many other people will miss Bill.  Here is a photo of Bill at my home, doing something he liked.  Taking pictures of train layouts.

Bill and Judy were becoming good friends of ours. It was a pleasure when they visited with us a few weeks ago. It was the start of what we hoped would be a long friendship.

Bill was so full of life and had so much to offer in his life experiences, and would be happy to share his knowledge and thoughts on a wide variety of subjects. He will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace, my friend.
