I ordered one too.  I’m about 40 miles from where the original one was built.  Mr. Billups had gas stations all through this area back in the day.  I plan to convert mine to 2R.  There is video of the prototype in operation available on the net.  I have not sen in a while but I will try to locate it later.

FILL UP WITH BILLUPS  I remember seeing those signs when me went to Florida on vacations; this was before the interstates.

I am also thinking about getting one but I plan to remove the gantry and use it by itself.

Anybody got a video so we can see the LED lighting and the sounds?

Edit, finally found one. Note, from 10months ago

That said, it doesn't sense train direction? Maybe it's just this early prototype?

  • Blinking Red LEDs
  • Illuminated Skull & Crossbones
  • Siren activates when train comes through
  • Arrows indicate direction that train is coming from
  • Includes Two 5" Insulated Track Sections for activation

Wondering if someone can confirm how the production one operates?

Just got the notification that mine is on its way. Glad to see that the signal and base are separate. This should make it easier to modify it for a different kind of track. I think I'll take it out to the club to let the guys play with it first.

As for the volume, putting a volume pot in the speaker line should take care of that.

Mine arrived today.  It's one of the most innovative accessories that Lionel has produced in recent years.  Boy is it loud!  Thank goodness there's an easily accessible on/off switch for the sound.  As I mentioned in one of the other threads about it, I originally passed on buying it because I thought it was a fantasy Halloween item - I was surprised to learn that it is prototypical.

Looking at it from underneath, beyond adding a volume pot, I would be reluctant to mess around with it.  Although the base and signal are separate, the wires are continuous.  But if you adapt it for another type of track, please post some pictures of the process.
