I have used Bluetooth operation before but I cannot get it to work with the latest GS-5 or UP Challenger. I put either engine on the track and turn on the power. The I-Pad 4 has the Bluetooth turned on but the apt cannot find any engine. I go to settings and turn the Bluetooth off-on and a tiny wheel spins but no Bluetooth device shows up. The Lionel apt is the latest update with the voice control. The I pad has been updated this year. Any ideas on how I can get the Bluetooth apt to work?

There is a switch on the engine to turn on Bluetooth control. Is that on?
Not saying you’ve done anything wrong but sometimes a refresher is in order. I’d check the switches as Marty suggested. Also here are a couple of good short videos that may be of some help
Any update on this?
I have turned the bluetooth on - off but not working. I pulled out my other bluetooth engine and that does not work. No bluetooth devices show up on the apple I pad. When I turn the bluetooth on the I pad the little wheel just spins but does not find any device. Has any one had a problem with the Apple I pad min 4 or other apple device have the bluetooth stop working? Any hints?
iPad 4? Isn't that an older model? I think my Son has the 4 and it won't take IOS updates past 10.x.
What are the minimum requirements for BT IOS to run Lionel BT?

If it's any consolation. After updating the app for the voice control on my android. The blue tooth crashes every time I try to pair with the loco.
It worked fine prior to the update.
I prefer my legacy handheld so no big loss. I just wanted to see how the voice control feature worked.
There are other complaints of this same issue in the app reviews, no function after the update.

Are you trying to connect at the system Bluetooth screen? You won’t see it there, just make sure Bluetooth is on, on the device and on at the locomotive. If you watched the videos posted above you should see how to connect with the app launched

I know Lionel uses BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) I don’t know the device requirements are though. But I have used it with devices with IOS 9.4 all the way up to the current version.
Fixed!!! I am not an Apple guy - the I Pad is the only Apple product I own. I was going to delete and then reload the apt, but - I went to settings and scrolled down to the bottom left to the Lionchief apt and touched it to get information on the apt. I found a bluetooth switch - and it was turned off. Turned it on and everything works now!!!. When I updated to the voice command apt level it must have turned the Bluetooth off. Anyone that cannot use the Bluetooth after an update try this "fix". Now I have to figure how to work the voice command system.
