box car irregularity ??

There are two holes for truck screws on some of the Lionel trucks, the one used depends on the geometry of the car.  I found that odd when I first saw it as well.

gunrunnerjohn..... I looked at mine I only have one hole at each end for placement of truck screw.

is this a manufacturing goof or a rare piece?

I have 2 Burlington route ice cars same year 2 different releases and the font type used is totally different on second release!

Note that I said "some".   Some trucks have a single screw, others have two mounting locations, one is farther to the rear of the truck.  Both holes on these trucks are threaded, and at least one car I took apart used the rear hole, the front one was the wrong location.

John has it right. There are two different truck mounting holes, depending on the style of car. The Standard O Boxcar that you describe uses the mounting hole set inward, allowing the coupler to stick out further from the car.

If you're still having trouble, photos would help.

Also, I'd be curious to see pics of your two different Burlington Ice Cars.

Don't feel bad, the first time I took the trucks off whatever car that was with the dual mount, I put them on wrong and really wondered why in the world they didn't work!

It's interesting to note the off-center mount is not sprung, but the main one is.
