I liked working with Propress and PEX, but saw failures would make me shy away and do the extra work. (and I like metal, not a fan of plastic in genral) I've used black iron fittings for mounting; never copper that I recall. For glueing rod into a flange, I'd cross drill the rod dia. once pack it with adheasive, then pack the flange and insert rod. With epoxy, esp. JB Weld etc. the glue will form a shear pin of sorts in the rod holding that, while the flange threads hold that side. I'm not sure if you could manage threading rod with a pipe threader or not. I think it might be prone to crack vs machine cut unless the cut was quite shallow.
