well, maybe it's owner has not been out too much since 1962.
prrhorseshoecurve posted:Out of curiosoty, what makes the pictured seller above think a 1962 "hand built" (no imports are built with feet, to the best of my knowledge) C&O 4-6-4 would be worth $13,995?
It's only worth what he can sell it for tomorrow.........
I had a free general admission ticket, so the wife and I took the 30 minute trip up to the Westin in Wheeling.
It was an interesting show, and it was nice to see the hand made models that were early makes. I got out unscathed, as there was nothing jumping off the tables saying "buy me". I am now exclusively in HO, but there was a fair amount of O scale brass there. Probably equivalent to what I've seen at Indy O scale shows, probably less than March meet.
If I was a brass "collector", this was probably THE show to go to, and to be there for Friday night / Saturday morning.
It was worth the drive up there just to see what was on display. There were some very nice displays there.
One thing that is quite evident, if you are into HO, and don't mind doing the painting, and sound decoder installation, there are a LOT of brass bargains out there in HO of old PFM, Balboa, Gem and other 1950s / 1960s models. Also lots of Korean built models from the mid 70s / early 80s for great prices too.
Had a conversation with a gentlemen that is doing sound decoder installations. Given my lack of available time, he may be getting some business.
Regards,
Jerry
Thanks for posting.
I got to watch some of the 'net streamed interviews and presentations on Youtube. More will be posted next week, rumor has it.
Were all the models on the tables for sale?
I had thought all those EMD SD70ACE demos were long gone. Nice assortment of stuff.
The O scale dealers moved several pieces of brass, so they did not waste their time. All in attendance also received a vary nice hard cover book - 'The Brass Train Guide Book'. There were also O scale Lee Marsh from Europe and Korean manufactures there also that you could talk to. PSC had the O scale C&O H6 on display and every one approve all of the corrections after bad data given to them about details of the locomotive Jack from DP was there and I talked to him about the O Scale RS3 Project. He does not seem enthusiastic about the project and only is interested in doing about 40 pieces. I asked about the price and he believes it is now about $3200.00 with less features than Key and other importers. I do not believe the RS 3 will be done by DP. Others stated his price is to high for the value. Erik of MMW says if he gets enough (120) orders he would do them.

Yes Joe all the models in the photos were for sale. Allegheny Scale Models was the seller and has a web site.

Thanks for posting the photos Stephen. I've never seen any large brass US O scale standard gauge steam locos in the forty years I have been in O scale only photos.
Roo.
Thanks for posting the pictures!
Looks like there were a lot of familiar items on the tables but not a lot of warm bodies.....
I took the photos at a slow time so you could see more of the tables and what was there.
For the $25 admission fee the packet had a greater value. The museum had several displays form several people from gauge one to such rare and valuable pieces from the beginning brass. There are people who collect these early pieces hence the price. Even the parlor car members got a $50 gift certificate.

Thank you Stephen for the pictures. Silly question but in your photo below mid photo above the boxcars and below the lift bridge, there is some kind of rectangular black colored gantry of some sort. Do you know what it is?
some are very blurry!
Dear Stephen,
Could you kindly tell me who was the dealer selling the Erie boxcars. Thank you, John
John, that looks like Bill Davis of American O scale Professional services.

Looks like Norm had his new SP caboose there too... and a picture with the 52' gons he was mentioning as his next freight car project.
Is this a one time show, or annually, and same location?

Dan has a 5 year plan that will hopefully be in the black by then. I expect the attendance to be double next year as I never enjoyed a show as much. All I heard was very positive comments.

Stephen, did Dan say how he expected the O scale brass importing business or the O scale brass sales market to do?
I would have no doubt in him doubling attendance but with the lack of new O scale brass projects the meat of his show will be HO.

He is an amazing guy! And as friendly as he seems. Not to put to fine a point on it his passenger trains are AMAZING!!!
The most recent project we did at Division Point was crafted by the artists at Sam Model Tech, Sam would not be here today if not for Fred. He is a living legend among the brass passenger train gods.

They are, Erik! Just gorgeous!
I attended Saturday on a free ticket sent to me by a certain brass dealer from Florida. Overall, the show was okay, nothing to write home about. Honestly I expected it to be of more substance than fluff, which it was not. There was some nice O scale offerings, but nothing that needed to "follow" me home. There were several familiar faces there, from both the Chicago March Meet, and Trainfest. Being the weather was crap outside, it was a good day to spend looking at brass model trains.....
So, I guess, at this show, looking for a set of brass-plated Marx Mercury 0-4-0 cab nameplates would have been a waste of time? Bummer.
But, let's talk about that C&O poppet-valve L2 Hudson...oh, my, yes. Now, if 3rd Rail would do one of their "cheapies"... in 2 and 3-rail of that prototype....yes. Yes.

By way of comparison, if you went to TCA York, you might possibly find a few items of brass. Your chances of finding your Marx Mercury at this show would be NIL!
