I have always stored my Legacy base in a stereo cabinet, as shown in the picture below.  However, I want to build an angled shelf to the left of the cabinet to hold the Legacy system for easier access when charging.  I recall someone doing something similar using spring-tension hinged brackets of some kind.  I also considered building a small stand but I think an angled shelf secured to the underside of the layout might be a better idea. Maybe even a shelf-like drawer that can pull out might be a nice solution. I mayeven want to mount switch controllers on it as well.

Any suggestions or photos are welcome.

Thanks,

Rick

I built an angled control panel, attached to the benchwork. Under this, I used a kitchen cabinet to house my power supplies and the legacy base. I was a little worried that the legacy signal would be compromised being inside the cabinet, but no problems so far. The legacy base itself was a little long to fit inside the cabinet, so I cut a hole in the back in order to slide the base all the way in. This allows the antenna to stick out the back and not actually be confined inside. The holes in the back allow for wiring, and ventilation. Again, no problem with any heat buildup.

Eventually I plan to "skirt" the whole layout, then all you will see is the panel and cabinet as the skirting will hide the table legs and wiring.

The second shelf in the 3rd pic looks to be off level, but in reality it isn't. Must be the camera angle I guess. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Thanks John, I thought that is what you had done. I've just got Legacy, and am still feeling my way with it. We plan to install it on our club layouts too. Our permanent layout is not in the same league as the NJ Hirailers, but I think a centrally mounted extended antenna is a good move for better coverage.

Hi Dave, We used that antenna before 1.3 came out. It was a Hawkings antenna. When 1.3 was installed in Legacy we went back to the stock antenna. We do have  the base mounted in the center of the layout and at the highest point. I think everyone went back to the stock antenna after 1.3 came out.
