Don't you look forward to the day when all the guys who pay much more for boxes (Lionel, I'm sure) than they do for the trains (in or not-in) them all get together and run them? The concept is about as interesting as the money spent on them...

One of the things about Marx is that the set boxes made such good places to store the trains, even for kids between use, and "Pick your toys up NOW!" Marx sets are frequently found, sometimes pristine, in those boxes.
This posting reminds me that I think you can get an Amish custom built coffin, so why not have one made up and painted as an oversize "orange box", and then somebody will be able to take it with him. (let us know on here, and see photos, if you decide to do this)

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode where Jerry talked about all our lives we are looking for a good box (like when moving) and then finally when we find the perfect one we are in it. Apologizes to Jerry for paraphrasing.

I have seen a variety of Lionel boxes selling for obscene money on eBay. For certain collectors, I guess, maybe. The value is there because so few survived. I get it. But literally hundreds of dollars for a box? Really, it's just a box. Don't have to concern yourself with me sniping you on the boxes.....
