Buying new trains and future value

I'll go with the above! I've always had a job and this stuff is a hobby, and if I make money down the line, it will be by accident. If I were investing, it would be in something other than this! That's not saying it can't be done, but you better know what you are doing!

 I Buy what I like . Run them and enjoy them. Show them off to my friends. I use to worry about When I die, who will get my set up and what will they do with it?? Then I realized something very important. " I WILL BE DEAD" What do I care. What I worry about now is" Gee, I HOPE THE GOOD LORD IS INTO MODEL RAILROADING" . And if things don't go good for me. I"ll be working the devil's coal train down below.

I have NEVER purchased a locomotive, freight car, passenger car, or caboose based on potential "resale value". I am NOT a collector, but an operator, and run everything I own, regardless of original purchase price. Bluntly, I could care less about "value"!
