Is there anyone who repairs cab-2 besides Lionel? I accidentally cracked the number/icon screen. I called Lionel and since it is not a warranty issue, I would have to pay a straight $100 labor charge plus parts which the number/icon screen and the covering glass shield which is $70. I guess sales tax is applied also.
Is there anyone who can repair a cab-2 besides them?
For about $170 plus, I can buy the 990 system for about $250 or get the 993 expansion for almost the same.
Thank you.

Why would someone else be cheaper?
Since the parts aren't available, they're the only game in town.
I thought I would ask as Lionel's labor charge is high in my opinion as it is a matter of changing the parts. I realize they maybe the only game in town but you never know that one of our repair gurus here accumulated some broken cab-2 for parts.
So... I guess the extra 1 I have will become parts for my other 2 cab-2s.

cjack, to answer your question; Lionel most likely discounts their parts to authorized dealers, who should have better labor rates.
As one that works for one of those "authorized dealers", I can tell you that we can't get parts for the Legacy command system.

Hi Tony,
Good friend of mine is a Lionel authorized service center. Legacy system is something they cannot repair or get parts. You have to get Lionel to do the repair. Found about this after speaking to my friend but I thought maybe someone besides Lionel can do the repair.
Take care, Ted

I'm an authorized service center, and I already stated we can't get parts for the Legacy command system.
John,
Guess I did not read all the posts thoroughly.
Are you going to Renninger’s train show on Oct. 17th? Think it is out by you.
Ted, I guess I'd have to make that judgment when I see the weather report. Since it's outdoor, lousy weather would dissuade me from attending.
