Last night, running a Lionel FT with TMCC, released ~ 2000, using a Cab1, loco took off like a runaway as soon as throttle was activated, and same FT, after being entered into a different Cab1, performed normally. This FT has had a Cruise Commander M, and a serial data buffer installed. And after a lot of hiccups, and round trips to the installer(s), has run normally, except for last night on a friend’s layout. Any explanations? Was never experienced by the layout owner with any of his TMCC engines.

It's not uncommon for the CC-M to lose it's mind and experience a runaway when the throttle is cracked. The fix is reprogramming it. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the CAB1 except maybe weak batteries.

I have had a cab 1 where the throttle would lose its zero point and cause a runaway.
If I was lucky , it might slow down after a few spins of the wheel, sometimes not. The remote was brand new out of the box.
I'm not saying it's the o.p.'s issue, but a defective handheld itself can indeed cause a runaway.
Would the CC-M “lose its mind” with only Cab1, and not the other?

I have to say that's got to be a rare failure. I've never seen or heard of it, and I've seen plenty of CC-M modules get confused and cause a runaway.

You stated you reprogrammed it with the new CAB1, that probably fixed the problem. The easy test is, does it still misbehave with the original CAB1?
No reprogramming of CC-M; same ID number used (02) for second Cab1. Didn’t think to switch back to 1st Cab1, and see if problem recurred.
