I was looking at MTH web site and I notice that MTH shows it will control Lionel cab3 with the SER2 mod. and a couple of cables. Will it run legacy engine in legacy mode?  Has anyone done this? How do you program it in the DCS app.

I have done this. The MTH remote will run legacy engines, but not in "Legacy" Mode. You lose some of the features of running Legacy with Cab2 remote or Cab3 app. I've never used a Cab1, but I assume, it would be more like the functionality of a Cab1/TMCC.

In the DCS App, at the bottom of the engine list, where you add a DCS engine, there is a line that says "Add a Legacy/TMCC engine".
You have to click on that. Of course after you have everything wired up with the Ser2 etc.

Henry, I believe that is correct. IF you were to run your legacy engines in Cab1 mode on your Lionel Cab2 remote or on the Cab3 app, the functionality of your legacy engines would be about the same if not the same as running the same legacy engine via the MTH DCS App. Honestly, since I got the Base3, I did not hook up my Ser2 and have been using my Cab2 remote to run Legacy engines. I like all the Legacy features, and some of those are lost running them through the DCS app.

The DCS App does a fine job at operating Legacy engine with about 95% of Legacy functionality.  Maybe even more.  Now with the advents of Bi-color marker lights and such there maybe some control issues there but I suspect not as the commands are still valid with the DCS App.  Unknown is any 4 digit exclusive functionality or Cab3 app particulars.

Now using the DCS remote, is a different ballgame.  It will only operate Legacy engine in TMCC mode so yes that will do no better than using a Cab1.
