Can an Improvised Fix Be Applied to a Lionel NYC Track Cleaner Unit? (6-36878)

It looks like you need the sponges and a retaining disc if I'm seeing it correctly.

Thanks for that tip. I followed the URL to Lionel Replacement Parts and placed an order.  I have plenty of foam sponges; I need just the discs.  I hope my order covers the two different types of discs!  As I expected, USPS delivery cost more than the parts.

It seems many hobbyists have struck out when trying to buy parts from Lionel, so I didn't go to that site. The Lionel website refers hobbyists to North Lima Train Parts, but that vendor is reportedly quite unsatisfactory; i.e., no responses, delayed responses, a knowledgeable employee on vacation, etc.

I have actually had pretty good luck with parts from Lionel, if it's on the site, you can usually get it.  The new MTH parts has also been good, though the Lionel search works better IMO.
