Anybody know if this is possible. Thanks.

No, you can't.
Nope, but many times MTH has regenerated the 5V files for 3V, so you may be able to accomplish the same thing.
I don't like the sound file on my bnsf ac6000. Looking for a good replacement. a good dash-8 or dash-9 will do. any suggestions? and what year does the 5v board go up to?
5V boards went to 2003-2004. When you look at a sound file name, you can tell if it's for a 3V or 5V board. There will be a 3 at position seven for most of them. Some also have the 3v appended to the file name. Examples below.

What sound file were you looking to 'upgrade' to (the 3v file you were looking to load) ?
I wanted to put 20-2832-1 (3V bnsf ac6000) sound file into a 20-2507-1 (5V bnsf ac6000)
P081PF3_AC6000_ALL080314eF2X.mth is the file. has a 3 in the 7th place
Question.... Are 5 volt sound files still shown with 5 volt engines? Since 5 volt boards are no longer available what sound file is available. I've tried MTH's site but my computer & computer skills are not great and don't get anywhere.
You could try this file:

However, it looks like your engine shipped with a 1MB sound file, which means there might not be enough room for the above file (which is 2MB) in the engine's memory.
Yeah confirmed, I have a 1mb limit. I put a dash 9 file i found on there. I like it a little better than the old one.
