The sounds (engine and whistle) from MTH's latest Premier Triplex leave something to be desired ~ disappointing considering the mechanical excellence of this model. The engine sounds and whistle from my 0-8-8-0 Angus are much better and fun to "play." Assuming I can find someone to help me with the download, is it even possible given the different wheel arrangements? And, is it a rule of thumb that wheel arrangements have to be identical to be used from one model to another?

Paul, I can send you the sound file for the 0-8-8-0 if you desire. It is 20-3118-1 for the PS-2 3 volt board. You can load it into your PS3 engine.
It's my understanding that you can use that file in the way you describe. That said, if you run this train at 20 smph, it may not be 20 as it would be in an engine with the proper sound file. That's about it. I do it all the time!
Seems like you would be missing some exhausts, since the 0-8-8-0 is a four cylinder locomotive, while the Triplex is a six cylinder locomotive.
Paul,
If the drivers on both engines are the same size and the gear ratios of both engines are the same, there should be no speed issues at all. The number of drivers is of no consequence

But wasn't the Triplex a compound design?
From Wiki...
"The center set of cylinders received high-pressure steam. The exhaust from these was fed to the two other sets of cylinders, which were valved for low pressure.[1] The right cylinder exhausted into the front set of low pressure cylinders, and the left into the rear set; this is also why the high pressure cylinders have the same diameter as the low pressure ones, whereas most mallet locomotives have much smaller high pressure cylinders. The front set exhausted through the smokebox and the rear set exhausted first through a feedwater heater in the tender and then to the open air through a large pipe"
Thanks Marty and everyone else...it sounds like its feasible...I will compare the size of the drivers tonight.
Marty, - the 0-8-8-0 I have is the PS3.0 version from 2012 - I am guessing I can download the file from MTH's site? I'll need to find help to do this, if I can't find anyone, I'll have to wait until I can set up the arrangement myself, although my company doesn't allow software to be loaded onto our labtops, so it might be some time unfortunately.
Update: the drivers on the Triplex are larger in diameter than the 0-8-8-0. Do I have to find another engine with same size drivers as the Triplex, or what would happen if the sounds of the smaller engine was uploaded into the larger?
Might be a little faster. If your not running a lashup, it won't matter much. Loaded it and try it. Don't like it go back to original. The Camelback file takes about 7 minutes to load. G
Sometimes you can select 3 chuffs and this will pretty close equal out to 4 four chuffs with different size drivers. In your case I would try 5 chuffs on the triplex. For sound only, it won't change the speed configuration.
After thinking about this, for PS-3 you can just load the sound file. Characteristics will stay since your not changing the flash program. Just sounds change. G
