Can you operate Legacy functions via transformer if running conventional ?

I am looking to find out if you can fire the front and rear couplers via the transformer. Also can you play the sounds the locomotives come with ? Can any other functions be used or do you need to have a legacy system ?

Nope, you just get whistle/bell and of course motion control. The crew talk, couplers, etc. are all command controlled.
