Here are two 53FT well cars I built by looking at photos of the National Steel Car prototype.  It is made entirely of styrene and built as 3RS.  However, I built the CP rail car as a transition car because most of my 53ft intermodal is lobster-claw while I do have 40ft well cars and locos with Kadees on them.

This is an extremely common prototype on the rails, and both CP Rail and DTTX have many of them.  I had to make a "boring" CP Rail 53ft container to go with the corresponding car.  Luckily I already had a TransX (also domestic Canadian trucking company).

These are often found as 3-car drawbar-connected sets in real life, but I have no plan to make more.  They simply take up to much space on my track because they are sooo looong!

I think there was an article in Model Railroader, possibly with drawings, on building a set of these cars.  Many years ago.  Does anybody know or remember what issue that may have been.

The old magazine index that used to be available for anyone is now owned by Model Railroader.  It is free to use once you have signed up for their site.  I feel like I'm already signed up enough places.

MLAT I'm very curious to see how your 53ft container turned out too.  Be sure to share pics when all of that is ready!

I'm making another 53 fter.  I wasn't real happy with how the first one turned out.  The corners were too sloppy for me.  I will post pics as soon as I get this new one done.
