I have been reading over various smoke unit issues on the forum but I haven't come across my issue. This morning when running my 2-8-0 everything was fine but when it came to a stop it started to have this whirring noise. I deduced it was the smoke unit however it still smokes and the whistle steam still works. When I turn off the smoke unit the sound goes away. I am handy so I have no issue digging around however when I opened it I saw nothing out of the ordinary and put it back together. I have attached some videos with the sound. I am new to trains in general but want to learn any help on what parts you think I should replace would be great, I just don't know where to start. The videos are with the railsounds turned all the way down, I use the Bluetooth universal remote.

Classic problem, the smoke fan motor. It's not a difficult repair, but the boiler shell obviously has to come off. Typically, I use MTH smoke motors, they've proven to be higher quality than the Lionel motors.
John, thank you so much I appreciate your knowledge. Do you have a link to the part that I need I have no doubt I can replace it I just want to make sure I buy the right part.
Thanks again!
It will be either these two parts. I don't know which without seeing the old motor.
6101154130 DC MOTOR / MINIATURE FAN / DIAGONAL SCREW HOLES
6108057211 DC MOTOR / MINIATURE FAN / HORIZONTAL SCREW HOLES
Unless the smoke unit requires the short motor, I use the MTH smoke motor, BE0000041.
I have a couple locomotives that have this issue as well. I typically crank the sound up and ignore it since it still smokes well. Wonder if the smoke motor is more prone to burn up though? I have also had 1 that did this but stopped after several refills of fluid. Possibly some fluid got on the motor shaft and acted as oil and lubricated it. Not sure.

Normally, the smoke fluid overflow onto the motor has the opposite effect, it stops up the works.
