And also John, your top photo appears to show the very thin shiny ‘longitudinal’ spring (on top of the draw bar) that must be pressed diagonally to the opposite side AND TOUCHING the tender shaft that protrudes below the tender (when connecting the engine to the tender), as this provides a proper ground (Don’t ask me how I know).

Since the drawbar has both Wheels and Roller coming through, I'm not sure exactly how critical the spring is.  I know that's it's stated purpose, but I have seen a few PS/3 locomotives missing them and they ran fine.

Hook it up and press firmly in place.  Do this with engine/tender on side so you can see.  You can try conventional first which will tell you the connection is good and the engine functions.  Make sure DCS/DCC switch is in the DCS postion.

Then try adding after you know it is connected right and works conventionally.  G
