It's often a question that comes up of what is the rarest toy train you can think of.

For me, that would be the Carail T-1's made in 1994.

These apparently came about because the 18011 Chessie T-1's didn't sell well, and only 30 were chosen by Richard Kughn to be repainted in Carail colors - 16 blue, and 14 white. In addition, an even smaller smidge were repainted gray in ArtTrain markings.

Has anyone ever seen or acquired one of these? The only person I think who would still have these would be Dick Kughn himself.

I think when Stout Auctions sold one of each color, they sold for over $3500 each.

A few weeks ago there was a white one on ebay. Started with a buy it now price of around $3500.  Later price was dropped to $2,700.

The only place I ever seen one these locos was during the 2000 LCCA/LOTS convention, as one of the tours was Richard Kughn's Carail collection.

Did it sell?
Folks can ask anything they like, that doesn't mean someone will buy.

Regardless, rare often does not mean valuable / high priced. A number of people have to be interested in obtaining it, and willing to pay.
