Purchased new last year, recently placed into service on layout. Runs great but Smoke production is very minimal. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Its a puffer type unit. Mine never smoked very well either when compared to a fan driven unit.
I got one over the summer NIB. Smoke was anemic as well. I opened the smoke unit and removed the sleeve over the resistor. I replaced the wicking with the rope style from Lionel. I positioned the resistor to fit nicely into the wicking. Make sure you do not block the air hole. Smokes a lot better now. The puff is a bit weak as it more bubbles out of the stack but you can clearly see all the smoke now.
Thanks for the info
As stated. Change the wick
I happen to love the way the Postwar 726 berk puffs smoke:
I bought the 726 CC Berkshire new. I remember the smoke output was weak. I did a simple rewiring and now puts out very decent puffs of smoke. I think it was the power wire to the smoke unit is too low voltage. I ran a wire direct from the pick up rollers to the smoke unit to get it to work right,I am pretty sure.
That CC berk is a great runner. I got one new back then. Smoke was as described above... but it runs great...

I believe the Century Club would have more modern features and probably be a better runner than the original Postwar of the early 1950s, which has a charm of it's own, is very sound mechanically if in good operating order, and is probably more of a collectible.
I have this engine to, as I joined both Century Clubs, however have not ran the Locomotive other than testing. My question, is there enough room for Gunrunner Johns Super puffer|chuffer Unit...
