Changing TMCC SPD Setting on DCS?

Bob, I don't remember specifically, but some how I remember some of these setting are meant to be done when the engine throttle is at zero/engine not moving.  Can't remember if it was TAS/ERR or a Lionel instruction set. 

I don't think you could hurt anything.  A reset would get it back to normal.  G

That's what I do most of the time (that is, when the engine is stopped), only done it on the move 3-4 times.  I would not recommend doing it when in the 128 setting (with engine going at high speed) then changing over to 32 speed steps, the engine may go airborne when the thumbwheel is dialed down.

Don't know if Jon Z. comes over here but he'd know (maybe I ought to have this moved over to the TMCC forum?).

TAS and ERR both include the direction key in their step mode setup sequences, that forces you to be stopped when you trigger them.

If I remember correctly you have to set the speed steps each time the engine is powered up. If the layout is powered down the engine doesn't remember the setting.

You are correct Gregg, something that I found somewhat odd.

I have 2 engines with TMCC/Legacy, one is a Lionel GP9 with Legacy and the other is a Railking RS3 with ERR Cruise Commander.

I'll have to recheck, but the RS3 has to be set at each startup, the GP9 holds the setting, but I will recheck.

What I'm after though...will it cause any electronic issues if the SPD setting is changed while the engine is moving?  So far it hasn't, but like I said I've only done it 3-4 times, on the GP9 only, haven't tried it on the RS3.

It won't "break" anything permanently.

I can't imagine what electronic issue you could cause, the worst that I can imagine is having to reset it again.

The Lionel GP9 really goes slow on the 128 setting, a couple of my Kadees wouldn't close now that's slow!

The 128 setting is only useful for models that have more speed steps, like the ERR 100 steps, TAS 128 steps, or K-Line cruise with 128 steps.

John, I don't know if I've ever gone above 60 speed steps on the DCS handheld, as it is that's plenty fast enough for me and takes a bit of time to scroll up and down.

I've tried to correlate speed steps to smph, but ended up using the "if it looks/feels right" mode to run them when running with PS2 engines.

For which boards set ERR?   I have K-line Cruise, Lionel version of Cruise and they retain the speed setting.  G

George, the engines retain the speed setting, it's the DCS that forgets your in REL mode and reverts back to absolute mode.

Ok, Now I understand. Wasn't specific, though I now see it was listed under DCS.  G
