Talk about an overbuild, Lionel has been trying to rid themselves of that inventory for the past year.

They overbuilt it the first time.  It was around for a long time after it came out.  I thought that might happen again.

That said, I don't see one listed on their site for $899, nor did I get an email.

Anyone have a link?

When I went to the Ro Website to check, I couldn't get in.  I got a page that said it was closed down for updating or some such.  That is why I asked the question.  I'm broke anyway because my ABA set of MTH F7s just arrived today at Wild Bills.  I'll pick them up excitedly tomorrow morning.

The D&RGW Mikado is listed for $599 on their Open House flyer page.

Yes... But the online store has it for $809... Could be a simple error... or could just be their way of leaving stuff for in-store sales or phone sales (which they can control) rather than everything disappearing via online sales and then pickings are slim for those visiting the store Saturday afternoon.  Just sayin... Always worth calling to be sure.

Happy bargain hunting!

Doesn't appear Berk's at $1125 are part of the open house specials.  But similar locomotives from that year are around $1175.  So there's a little break there (after the big hub-ub for no whistle-steam as originally advertised).

Detail level on the Berk's though is excellent.  Lots of separately added parts... Much more than say the UP 4-12-2 which looks to be identical tooling from the 2002 run with less impressive cast-in details.

Yea, but have you heard and seen the black as preserved version of the #9000?

Realistic three cylinder sounds with whistle steam blows the first issue out of the water..

I know the Berk still is or was recently discounted from Lionel..

My price from my LHS was a lot less then what Charlie is asking for the SF Northern today.

I took the Northern at the discount because it has Whistle Steam and I like it more..

That aside,  I'm ready to deal on the Berk today.

I'm willing to trade a ten pack of Twinkees even up for a Berk today..

Next week nothing less then the VL Hudson will do..

I'm still waiting for my UP #9000 that's due to arrive in the "2nd partial shipment" of those locomotives.  When that will actually be, nobody seems to know.    The Lionel shipping schedule indicates Nov 2012, but it's been notoriously wrong on LOTS of stuff lately.  So much so that it appears Lionel doesn't even know what they're getting until the containers arrive in the States.  Unbelievable.  But I'm patiently waiting for my UP #9000, whenever it arrives.

According to my dealer, there seems to be a screw up between the catalog and inventory. Lionel inventory shows the grey #6-11344 sold out and #6-11343 as a partial shipment.

But,  new catalog shows grey #6-11344 in catalog photo as available to order (partial shipment) and the decorated version 6-11343 not available..

Not sure what to make of this, but here is what I know.  Back around the May/June timeframe  (this year), two very large dealers confirmed unquestionably that there would be another shipment of UP #9000's coming this year.  That's 6-11343, UP #9000.  Shortly thereafter, the Lionel shipping schedule began indicating the 6-11343 shipment in May was a PARTIAL shipment.  So that lent some credibility into what I was hearing from these two dealers.

Like many other items though, delivery dates for this supposed second shipment of 6-11343 (if there really is gonna be one now) have been steadily slipping month-to-month since late Summer.  The latest shipping schedule shows November 2012, and the Charlie Ro website indicates "expected by November 30, 2012".

Yet the following two pieces of information are a bit concerning and could easily be construed to undermine -- or at a minimum raise doubt in -- the earlier thinking:

  1. The Lionel shipping list that Charlie Nassau posted about a week ago, detailed Lionel items shipping in the next 30 days -- going out into the second week of December.  And 6-11343 was NOT listed.
  2. When I called the dealer with whom I have this on order, they couldn't confirm an impending shipping date -- nor ANY date whatsoever. More or less a "We won't know for sure until it arrives." outlook.  Didn't instill a lot of confidence, but we've seen this type of thing before... so it is what it is.

Now the fact that Lionel's latest catalog, 2012 Vol 2, has the Greyhound version 4-12-2 re-catalog'd doesn't necessarily mean anything to me.  Often times stuff is recatalog'd if Lionel still has excess inventory.  Other times, not so.  So I'm not sure what to make of all of this.

One thing is absolutely certain... and I apologize in advance if I sound harsh here... but it's becoming extremely clear to me that there's growing sentiment that Lionel personnel here in the States haven't a single clue of what's REALLY shipping until containers arrive Stateside.  And that statement is not just coming from me.  Dealers themselves have openly commented that there seems to be no "one person" who can authoritatively communicate accurate delivery times of products in question.  And that's poor product marketing/management communications no matter how you look at it.  Downright unacceptable if you ask me.

But in the grand scheme of things, this is small potatoes, and life goes on.  And so we wait until we hear something more definitive.  Stuff will arrive when it arrives.  Other folks are not so lucky in that they're dealing with much bigger issues than whether their favorite toy train is shipping on time.

maybe only the largest dealers get the whats coming list?

The dealer with whom I have this item on order is one of Lionel's largest.  Whether you talk to small Mom-and-Pop stores or large national dealers, everyone just LAUGHS when talking about any overseas shipping schedules nowadays.  Just a sign of the times, I guess.
