Today is the day I got my hands on command and I would like to install this to my 8x8 fastrack layout. But I have a question on setting this up. According to the directions, it says to connect a wire to the U terminal to the outside rail. Since I have a CW-80 transformer with wire connectors, I was wondering if I can connect the Red wire to the CW-80 and use the black terminal to connect the command base? This is my first time hooking this up and I’m just making sure I have this hooked up properly. Any and all advice will help. My layout isn’t finished, but I hope that maybe today I at least have enough power to program my engines for my first loop. I already know that I might need more power. So I already plan to get a powerhouse.

No, this won't work because you have your wire leads swapped at the track and also are missing a connection to your CW.
Red connector(black wire with white stripe) to center rail and CW "A" post, black(solid black wire) to running rails and CW "U" post, which is where you connect the Command Base "U" with a separate wire running between them.

Ok, so if I swap the leads, will it work afterwords?

Ok so I corrected the leads and put them in the right places. Can 22 AWG solid wire work for the separate wire connection between the U terminal on the Trasnformer and the command base’s U terminal?

Well, it can be any size as it does not carry any power.
So would the connection for both U terminals look something like this? I used a black 22 AWG solid wire to match up with the U terminal.

Don't over complicate it. It is literally a one-wire connection to the layout.
Ok so I have everything hooked up, but when I went to program my train and try to control my engine. I keep getting a red flashing light. I’m not sure what this means.

Normal operation.

The red light is telling you that it is receiving the command. As Rob says, normal.
Thanks everyone. I got my train running, and the train is receiving enough power go around the first loop. I’m excited to see what the future holds for my layout.
