Hey guys (and gals) What works and what doesn't work to clean old dingy track to give it that new shiney look! not necessarily rusty track, just stuff that has seen alot of service. Thanks in advance !
My LHS said to use a light application of WD 40 across the top of the rails with a rag. He said don't use too much otherwise it will start to collect dust. Haven't tried it yet but have old grimey track awaiting.
If it is rusty, I use fine sandpaper mainly on the top surface where the wheels and center contact ride.
I also use fine sandpaper on my existing track each season to remove rust and lubricant from the engines. I have also used rubbing alcohol on an clean rag or my homemade Centerline type track cleaning car to remove oily residue.
