I have the Lionel R-16 baldwin shark-nose AA set and would like to see the two units closer together and with diaphragms between them. Have any of you been able to achieve this, and how did you do it. Thanks in advance, Fred
Two ways come to mind -- shorter couplers (hard to find) or draw bars (easy to make.) Many modern locomotives use some kind of "T" bar centering spring on the coupler shaft. Just cut/drill a piece of brass to the appropriate length and draw bar them together. I'm doing it with a set of FT's (the prototypes were actually draw-barred together.)
Thanks Matt, I will explore this idea. I have Lionel Subways, perhaps I can use their draw-bars as a template. I would not have thought of this, I was just thinking couplers, Fred
