I have a number of coal loader accessories on my layout and can't figure out what artificial coal works best. Right now I am using black aquarium gravel that's inexpensive looks good and seems to work OK but I am looking for a better option. The MTH coaling tower seems to have trouble picking up the gravel so is the problem my choice of artificial coal or the accessory itself.? What the best artificial coal to use and where can it be purchased? Comments appreciated.

I use black fish tank gravel I found at Petco with the #397 loader. It's definitely not scale size but it works for me.
The old Wild Bills Train store sold me the best for Lionel coal loader and MTH side dump cars.
MTH coal,...... never jams, never need to get the small particles out of the wrong places, never need to clean always works.
I have the MTH coaling tower and it seems to like smaller particles of coal.
