Anyone have recommendations for using Code 83 vs Code 100 rail for On3 switching layout

Mike,

We used San Juan Car Co flex and #6 switches for our DSMR portable On3 switching layout. If you are laying your own, code 83 is probably closer to the rail size used by the RGS and D&RGW.

83 will look better but the switches are a little more fragile. If its just you and a few well schooled operators that's OK but if you have new operators all the time then the 100 is certainly more stout. Right now I think all of the commercial turnouts for ON3 are code 70 or 83. Maybe Old Pullman has some code 100 but I don't know for sure. Russ

Like Russ, I agree that code 83 has a nicer appeal for a narrow gauge line.

I just looked up Old Pullman and he still lists code 100 ON3 turnouts. Russ

I have read in many sources that Old Pullman was not producing anything anymore. If I'm incorrect, that's a good thing!
