I just purchased a remote command control switch. There were several hitches even in the set-up. First of all, it took a while for the beacon light to start blinking after I pushed the black button on the track. Then, after I programed in the number and pushed the set button on the remote, it took a while for the light to stop blinking.... Then when I started using the remote, more often than not, the track switch did not respond (sometimes it did, and sometimes it did not). The switch works well if I use the connected switch lever.

Is this something than can be fixed, or is the switch just a lemon?

Since the switch operates fine with the lever, it sounds more like it could be a communication issue.

If you hold your hand a few inches above the switch, does it work better ?

Some have opened the bottom of the switch and reoriented the pickup antenna wire

Positioning the antenna seems to be the most common fix as Rod states.
