I think I boo-booed...I was in a show where a guy was blowing out a lot of O

structures, including narrow gauge ones, and he had a Como Roundhouse kit.

It is unusual to find O scale structure kits in a show so I grabbed 3 of the

several.  But I had seen these roundhouses on the net and thought that probably  doorway widths and heights would not work for three rail standard

(4' 8 1/2") guage locos.  I stopped at his table three times, mulling it over,

and, of course, on the third loop, it was gone.  I guess I should have bought

that and several more items for resale.

Yes, Mr. Meixel...I am in the process of putting a roof on a Korber "brick" interurban

car house, which I had to both raise and widen to take a couple of small freight

engines.  I did not see how I could do a decent job splitting each of those five

cast plaster doorways to widen them for O gauge 3 rail locos, and get decent results..  Years ago I drove by and photographed the protoype, but, then, as it looked like it was out in a field on private property, that was from the road with a telephoto lense, and I didn't get close enough for a sense of the size.

I like stone buildings so always look at these kits when they are offered for sale, and

passing up one at a decent price was kind of a downer.

The Como Roundhouse was built in 1880 by the Denver South Park and Pacific narrow gauge RR with stone from the Como CO area. COmo was where the helper engines were added for the climb over the Boreas pass and down into Brekenridge. The main line ran through my area in SW Denver up the Platte River Canyon next to my work, up through Como, to Gunnison, Breckenridge and on to Leadville CO. It was the original competitor to the narrow gauge D&RGW but basically lost every battle - always too late and always picked the steeper ascent up the mountains.

Here is the Como Roundhouse as it stands now about 20 miles from me.

Wow..I didn't remember the turntable pit amd even the bridge still there!  Only drove

that once;  will have to take another llok, but would have to scratchbuild as much larger

one....this Korber "car barn" I enlarged, could have been larger....my two locos will

fit each side, but the center door, not widened, will only accept a railbus.  Have not

had time to spend on it..so the roof is on, but cupola and roofjacks await.
