When I mix "0" and "027 track, I just force the "027" onto the "O" gauge pins. Very little transition bump.

Although this part is offered, it will be quite a bump at the transition point due to a design flaw:

It really should be offset, like the GarGraves adapter pins.

You can make your own by starting with three "O" pins, and grind one end(to the half way point) of each 3/4 of the way around to match the diameter of the O-27 track pins/openings.

If you instead grind them to the center like the above Lionel pins, there will be a significant "bump" at the transition.

For an example of this "offset" method, look closely at the GarGraves "O" & O-27 adapter pins:

I made my own about 8 years ago by grinding down O pins to fit O27.  What ADCX Rob said it really important - a lesson that I wish I had learned 8 years ago.  What I did was put the pin in a drill and grind it against a grinding wheel which made the 'indent' even all around.

BAD MISTAKE!  What Rob said is exactly what happened.  There was a 'bump' at the joint, the height difference matching to how much I ground off on the O27 side of the pin.

I landed up buy the commercial mating pins - works MUCH better.

However, if I was to do it again, I would do what Rob suggested and only grind one 'side' leaving the other side alone.
